an exercise in conceit and denial

or

an embodied public art project based in photography

Big Cosmetics is huge.

Commenting on female fear of the inherent self and the demonization of aging,  today women often forsake their natural state for the general societal view that valuation is largely defined by youth, beauty, and purity.

An exercise in concise time, for 30 days the subject/object pulls from a white wardrobe only, drawing attention in regular public life while racking up inevitable impossible stains. The deterioration is immediate and maintaining purity is a struggle impossible. Stagnation and irrelevance isn't far behind, and by painting over the stains, or dabbing cover-up on the skin[’s flaws], the subject/object can only try to alter your perception of her. But mainly, it becomes about perfection. It begins to eat away at her view of herself, her ability to perform, her ability to adhere to the goal. She thinks they want to see her perpetually new. But really they want to see her fall so that they don’t have to look anymore and not feel bad about it.

The process of the disruptive event is documented and put on display.  The change is irreversible. The attempt to trick the viewer and oneself that a pure state can be maintained infinitely is in itself the evidence one wishes to conceal.
